There are 3,682 tigers now in India, up from 2,967 in 2018 — a rise of almost 24% in four years. The revised figures follow detailed analyses of census data collected during the fifth cycle of estimation conducted in 2022. With this, India is now home to approximately 75% of the world’s tiger population.

A fresh spell of rain in the hill states led to the release of huge volumes of water from the Hathnikund barrage into the Yamuna on Saturday, forcing the Delhi government to issue a warning to people who had moved back to their houses in the low-lying areas. Suspected terrorists shot at and wounded two migrant workers in south Kashmir's Anantnag district late Tuesday. Both are in hospital and stable, police said. Kashmir Zone Police tweeted that the area where the duo was attacked had been cordoned off for a search of the assailants.
