India under pressure from US and Russia over UN vote

India is under enormous pressure from both Washington and Moscow to vote with them on a UN Security Council resolution to censure Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. Both sides have reached out to New Delhi to make their case and openly expressed hope that they will have India's support for a vote that is expected in the early hours of Saturday IST.

End violence, return to dialogue: PM Modi to Putin

PM Modi called up President Putin on Thursday and appealed to him for “immediate cessation of violence and return to the path of diplomatic negotiations and dialogue”. Modi also “sensitised the Russian President about India’s concerns regarding the safety of Indian citizens in Ukraine, especially students, and conveyed that India attaches the highest priority to their safe exit and return to India,” the PMO said, even as the Centre scrambled to bring back 16,000 Indian nationals.

BJP talking terror to skirt jobs & fuel price issues: Akhilesh Yadav

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said BJP leaders are talking about terrorism in their election speeches when the common man is looking for solutions to rising fuel prices and unemployment. He said this was being done to divert attention from the main issues. He addressed public meetings in Ayodhya and Barabanki where he appealed to the people to vote for SP candidates in their respective areas.
