The second batch comprising 4,417 pilgrims left in a fleet of 142 vehicles from Bhagwati Nagar base camp here for Pahalgam and Baltal. For the Pahalgam route, 2,800 pilgrims left the base camp, while 1,617 pilgrims for Baltal left in buses and light motor vehicles, which were escorted by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), officials said.

A SpiceJet plane Sunday overshot the runway while landing at the Surat Airport, although none of the passengers and crew members on board were hurt in the incident, an airport official said. The incident, which occurred around 8.15 pm, was a result of heavy rain and wind, the official said.

BJP MP from Alwar Balak Nath had a narrow escape when the helicopter carrying him appeared to lose control for a while and started spinning in the air before landing in the Rajasthan district on Sunday, police said. Over 1.5 lakh pilgrims from across the country have so far registered themselves for the 46-day long yatra, which takes place from the traditional 36-km Pahalgam track in Anantnag district and 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal district. Director General Krishnaswamy Natarajan took over as the 23rd Chief of Indian Coast Guard on Sunday. He replaced Rajendra Singh, who was the first cadre officer to head the force. Natarajan is a 5th Batch Officer of the Indian Coast Guard. He joined the forces on January 18, 1984, and holds a Masters' Degree in Defence and Strategic Studies from Madras University. Today two sorties were carried out to search the eighth body, but it is not possible to continue right now due to bad weather," said VK Jogdande, district magistrate, Pithoragarh.
The "dhyan gufa" (meditation cave) is booked for the whole of July and there are also advance bookings for different dates in August, September and October, Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam Ltd (GMVN) General Manager B L Rana said. People from different parts of the country are logging into the GMVN website to book the facility, he said. Since the prime minister's visit in May, not a single day has passed when the "dhyan gufa" was not occupied by someone, the GMVN official said.
